Minute Pirate Bug
Tiny black-and-white bugs under 1/4 inch long that are highly effective predators of thrips, aphids, spider mites, and whitefly. Despite their size, they are among the most voracious garden predators.

Why you want them
Minute pirate bugs punch well above their weight in pest control. A single bug can consume 20 to 30 thrips nymphs per day and will also take aphids, spider mites, and whitefly eggs. They overwinter as adults in leaf litter and plant debris, emerging in spring before most pests have established. In gardens with good structural diversity and flowering cover crops, populations can build up to provide significant background pest suppression.
