Fungal
Leaf Blight
A range of fungal pathogens causing rapid browning and death of large areas of leaf tissue, often spreading through a canopy quickly in warm, humid conditions.

Symptoms to Look For
- Large irregular brown or tan dead patches spreading rapidly across leaves
- Infected areas drying out and papery, often with a darker water-soaked margin
- Premature defoliation starting from the lowest, oldest leaves upward

Organic Solutions
Copper spray
Apply copper-based fungicide spray preventatively from the start of wet humid weather, coating all leaf surfaces on both sides.
Remove infected leaves
Strip and destroy all blighted leaves as soon as they appear to slow the spread upward through the canopy.
Prevention
- Water only at the base of plants and never use overhead irrigation during humid weather
- Rotate crops with non-host families for a minimum of 3 years
- Choose varieties with documented blight tolerance where available
