Organic Solutions
Copper-based spray
Apply copper hydroxide or copper oxychloride spray as a protectant during wet weather, coating all leaf surfaces before symptoms appear.
Remove infected leaves
Pick off and destroy spotted leaves as soon as they appear to slow the spread of bacteria through splashing water.
Prevention
- Avoid overhead irrigation and water early in the day so foliage dries quickly
- Use certified disease-free seed and resistant varieties where available
- Rotate susceptible crops with non-hosts for at least 2 years between plantings
